Google has updated its Google News desktop interface to celebrate its 20th anniversary. The new design was rolled out on Thursday which gives users the option to customise their feed by bringing top stories, local news and personalised picks to the top of the page.

With this, users will be able to catch up with the most important news. The new look for Google News on desktop was inspired by feedback the tech giant received from readers. Users can add multiple locations to the ‘Local News’ segment by clicking on the settings button located on the right of the header.

The biggest change in the layout of Google News is that several categories of news such as business, science, health, world, politics have been moved from the left-hand side of the screen to a menu bar at the top.

To make Google News desktop layout look more neat and arranged, users can also customise the topics that appear on the page.

This new feature by Google makes it simple to scroll and click through the stories that most interest you.

Users can add, remove or reorder topics – just click the blue customise button in the top right of the Your Topics section to get started.

“You can now use the filter button to add multiple locations to your local news section, so you’ll never miss important news about the cities and towns you care about. This change is just the latest way we’re bringing local news to users around the world,” Google said.
